Case Study
Job participation for a man at a nursery via job coaching

Company:

The company is a family-run nursery that has hired a man with special support needs. He was hired through a specialist integration service, whose tasks include the placement and qualification of people with disabilities in the general labor market. Without the support of the specialist integration service, it would not have been possible to hire him, as the nursery would not have had the staff or the time to train the man individually and for longer than usual and to train him for the required activities.

Disability and impairment of the employee:

The man has a learning disability. Due to his disability, he has difficulties with learning and memorizing. He is also unsettled by new or unfamiliar work tasks.

Transition from school to work:

After attending a special school, the man worked for various temporary employment agencies in different sectors, e.g. as an assistant in the construction industry, as a machine operator and finally as an assistant gardener. He was then unemployed for some time and was referred to the specialist integration service by the employment agency. He was given an internship at the nursery through the integration service. During the internship, the man was trained and familiarized with the job directly at the workplace with the help of a job coach from the integration service. The necessary work processes were structured, trained step by step and intensively or frequently, so that a suitable assignment for the job as a gardener's assistant was possible. After the internship, the man was taken on permanently by the nursery due to the skills he had learned, his high level of motivation, reliability and ability to work in a team.

Workplace and work task:

In the nursery, the man is responsible for cleaning, bundling and storing the plant tubers, caring for the plants and planting the tubers.

Support and cooperation:

The work equipment required for the newly created workplace was supported by the Integration and Inclusion Office. The nursery received a wage cost subsidy from the employment agency as an integration subsidy. The employment agency also funded support from the integration service and job coach. The application for funding was made with the help of the specialist integration service.
